The world isn't what it once was. Soaring temperatures have made the surface almost uninhabitable and what remains of humanity is desperately trying to survive. You were out searching for supplies when a heat storm started to roll in. You made it into an old bunker just in time but the passage collapsed behind you. Will you hold out long enough for someone to rescue you? Can anyone hear your radio calls for help? Is anyone even still out there?

Calling out into the night is the eleventh chapter in my One day at a time series. The series was begun as a means for me to practice coming up with simple games. I set myself a few rules to try and ensure they games stay simple:

  • I get 20 hrs to develop and upload each game.
  • No individual game can be released until the collection is complete.
  • Once all games are complete I get 4 additional hours per game to polish them.
  • All games are done solo but I can use third party assets.

With the rules in place the question was then what would I use as prompts? I decided on working my way through all of the Global Game Jam themes in order. Calling out into the night is based on the 2018 Global Game Jam theme of "Transmission".

I really like this game. A great piece of storytelling. Is there more than one ending? I lasted until the 22nd, but I see one of your images suggests that you can survive for a couple of months.

Thankyou for playing! At the moment there's only the one way it ends. Getting the balance fairly on supply usage, plus some last minute bugs, took longer to sort than expected. It's a game I want to come back to and do more on though :)

Awesome, thanks for the heads-up, was just worried I'd missed out on another ending by having too many showers and flushing the toilet! It's a great game, have played most of your Fragments games and they're all very interesting. Excellent work! Especially considering the time constraints!

Good game but needs some work , i hope you enjoy my gameplay :)

Thankyou for playing! There's a few improvements I'll be making to it.
